Congratulations to the Fitzroy-ACU Womens 2 team who scored their first ever win on the weekend. And win in style they did, defeating Roxburgh Park 21.11.137 to 1.1.7.

Sunday proved to be an inspiring day of Fitzroy-ACU Women's footy with solid wins for both teams. The full squad (and some of their family members), rallied around each other and assisted with off-field roles such as runners, water carriers, goal umpire and scoreboard roles, in order to get the girls on the paddock. A special mention must be made of Janie Gibson, who stepped up to make her boundary umpire debut for the Womens 1 game at BSO.

Coach Jo Hogan said the Womens 2 team were winners not only on the scoreboard but also in how they demonstrated their team values of trust, united, positive, sportsmanship, selfless and committed. As the season progresses the way the girls go about their football is building each week. Self-confidence is growing, their skills are being refined and the knowledge of the game plan is improving and they are having serious fun while diligently evolving their game,Jo said.

Jo made special mention of Tash Ross-Harris who made an impressive debut in the Ruck, with consistent centre bounce and stoppage clearances, not to mention six goals! This opened up opportunities for direct and accurate delivery of the ball from the mid field into a strong leading forward line. It was a great team effort and very pleasing to see the goal kicking shared amongst several players for the Roy Girls.Susie Worthington also made a very good start in her first game with the club.

The Fitzroy-ACU Womens team also had a massive win on Sunday, defeating Bayswater 17.22.124 to nil for their third win in a row and a tight grip on third spot.

Ashleigh Riddell (five) and Liz Olney (four) were again strong in front of goal, with Tess Cosgrave and Tegan Sword playing excellent games.

Coach John Marshall was rapt with his team but had a message for the whole squad. "A win is nice but there is nothing better than a TEAM win. Great to see the Womens 2 team on the board; Jo and I knew it was just a matter of time because of the efforts of all of you. Sometimes it can be difficult when you are not being successful on the scoreboard to maintain the level of work needed to succeed. The numbers getting to training really shows your true commitment and character./p>

The coaches also commented on the willingness of players from both teams to support each other on and off the field, contributing to the team and the club.

This extends to the relationship with the Fitzroy Junior Football Club, with the Under 12 Fitzroy Junior Roy Girls making the trip to Brunswick Street Oval on Sunday to watch the Fitzroy-ACU Women's game. Some of the girls came into the rooms at half time and were just so excited to be with the team in the rooms and hear the half time speech in the inner sanctum. Jo said It is a great way for the pathway to be visible and see role models evolving around our Roy Community footy pathway./p>
