Fitzroy Football Club recently appointed Matt Larkin to the role of Senior Assistant Coach for our Senior Men's Team, working under Senior Coach Luke Mahoney.
The Club is thrilled to appoint such a highly experienced football talent in Larkin who played 172 games for North Melbourne Football Club between 1984 and 1993. Larkin's illustrious career saw him win three Syd Barker Medals in four years, captain the side for three seasons and win of Goal of the Year in 1988.
Now it's time to call Fitzroy home and after working with the Fitzroy Junior Football Club, Larkin is passionate about continuing to nurture the football journeys of his former juniors.
"The main reason I want to be involved [at Fitzroy] is to continue working with the Fitzroy juniors I’ve coached." He said. "They now have an opportunity to become good Senior footballers and hopefully I can help."
Larkin is excited to get football back in 2022 and enjoy all Brunswick Street Oval has to offer on game day. He's also keen to get stuck into the role and learn the strengths of the squad. "I’m still figuring out who fits in where, and we’re working on skill improvements and ball movement at the moment in pre season.
"I'm looking to help Luke with the development of players in their pursuit of improved performance. I’m passionate about the pressure aspects applied to opposing teams."
The Club is excited to see what Larkin will bring to the squad for Season 2022 and welcomes him to the Fitzroy family.
