Fitzroy has inducted eight new honorary life members at the annual general meeting.
The eight represent just about all aspects of life at a community football club from players, to volunteers, family members, timekeepers and members
of the Board.
Mother and son, Joan Eddy (Fitzroy President) and Tom Cheshire (current Fitzroy player) were inducted together and the afternoons presentation was highlighted
by the thank you speech from Director Tom Sargant on behalf of the new inductees.
Tom provided some touching moments about his love of Fitzroy, going back to the VFL days when Fitzroy defeated the highly fancied North
Melbourne in the 1978 night grand final and listing Bob Beecroft and Paul Roos as his heroes.
He said his interest in footy had waned after 1996, but sometime later he saw the Reds playing near his home and thought the jumper is back
Tom, who is the custodian of the club song and makes sure it plays at every home game, said he was very thankful to the current day Fitzroy players who
put the jumper on and put their bodies on the line every week.
I love hearing the song every week; it makes my hair stand on end./p>
