Due to the overwhelming popularity of womens football and the first successful season of the Fitzroy-ACU team, Fitzroy will field a second womens team in 2016.
This is a fantastic outcome and a credit to the passion of womens coach, John Marshall, and the ongoing support of the Australian Catholic University.
We are very pleased to announce that Jo Hogan has accepted the position of second Womens Coach. Jo worked with John Marshall and the womens team last year and was also the coach of the Fitzroy Junior Football Club (FJFC) U12s girlsteam. Jo is an Auskick coach for Carlton-Fitzroy Auskick.
A big thank you to the FJFC, which has been very supportive of our womens teams. As the women play on Sundays, we will need to share ground access with the club. Also thanks to the City of Yarra for their support of womens football.
Due to the enthusiasm of the 2015 Fitzroy-ACU womens players, there were already a significant number of women on the playing list keen to get a game.
The two teams will be in Division 3 and the new North West Division of the Victorian Womens Football League.
