In the lead up to Max Elliss 150th game, long time friend, teammate and vice captain, Tom Cheshire has paid tribute to the reigning best and fairest winner, as he looks forward to some potential finals footy together.
Tom says in his younger years Max gained the nickname Stepsas a few key forwards used to use him as a step ladder, but my how the times have changed!
Max has been such a reliable player for us over years as he rarely has a bad game. Hes the type of player who puts the team first and nullifies a key forward, whilst also generating run from the back line./p>
After coming back from a year overseas, it was great to have Maxs enthusiasm and energy in what was a tough year in 2017, and his best and fairest was testament to that.
What Ive noticed this year is the growth in his leadership skills which has been great to watch. Often quite reserved, Max has been more vocal around the club and quick to offer his opinion and experience which is a huge benefit to everyone. His work ethic on the track is something a lot of these young guys can learn from,Tom says.
Its been a pleasure playing with Max over the years and I look forward to hopefully playing some finals footy with him once again.
Max has played all his football with Fitzroy, right from AusKick days, to the Fitzroy Juniors and then into the senior club, playing in an Under 19 premiership in 2010 under coach Tim Bell, with captains Rory Angiolella and Julian Turner.
Congratulations Max on a wonderful milestone but as your new mate Kevin Murray might say, only half way there!
