Fitzroy storms into top four

08-Jun-2016

Fitzroy has retained the Norm Johnstone Trophy and stormed into the fop four of the Premier B competition, with a strong win against the Parkdale Vultures.

Parkdale came into the game with some good form and sitting fourth on the ladder but by the end of the day Fitzroy had taken its spot, winning 12.12.84 to Parkdale 9.7.61.

Again it was the boys stepping up from the Under 19s giving the team some new energy and run, while the steadiness and hard bodies of Dan Bisetto (who seemed to be forward, back and in the ruck!), Jack Dalton, Ross Borland and Tom Biscaro contributed to an all-round team performance.

Last years Under 19s best and fairest, Max Davie, laid 13 effective tackles and was named best player, also taking out the one percenter award. The classy number 6, Aiden Lambert was also singled out by the coach. His long range goal from not far out of the middle got the fans up and about despite the terrible viewing conditions.

Everyone is talking about the teams performance this week, with Co-Coach Nick Mitchell talking to The Leader newspaper about the season so far.

The VAFA also reported on our form reversal.

And Phil Hill in The Footy Almanac, was very excited with the result and the prospects of The Tramconductorsnew favourite Aiden Lambert. Phil, like all of us, is hoping Lambo can collect 35 possessions and five goals for each of the next three weeks (while he takes a well-earned rest overseas).

Those who had suggested Fitzroy might be fit for relegation early in the season are now talking Premier A! Either prediction is probably a step too far just at this moment (sorry Phil), but the clear goal from the coaches after the game was to hang on to that top four spot and that will be the priority after the bye.

Ajax at their home ground is the next opponent and it hasnt been a happy hunting ground.

The only other Fitzroy winner last weekend was the Fitzroy-ACU Womens 2 team who seem to be pretty keen on this winning business. They defeated Glen Orden 15.19.109 to 1.0.6 down at Ramsden Street on Sunday in the VWFL North West Division.
