Trent Coleman joined Fitzroy in 2010 from Panton Hill in Northern Football League.
He had a choice of clubs, but decided he should play all his footy north of the river Hes never looked back.
Id just moved to inner-city Melbourne and was looking for a new club as it was just too far to travel to my old one. I had a choice between Fitzroy or a club in St Kilda. I've always played my footy north of the Yarra, so that, combined with the opportunity to be part of a former VFL club, I choose to have a kick with the Roys.
It's easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. I turned up to my first training session at Princess Park, where I felt welcomed and saw the standard of footy was pretty high so I just kept coming back./p>
Captain of inaugural Thirds team in 2012, he had one of those hard-luck footy stories when he missed the 2012 grand final having sustained a knee injury in finals and the side went on to take out the premiership.
Trent played 69 games for Fitzroy. He was one of the three unofficial playing coaches for the Thirds in 2016 and was awarded at the Club's Redlow presentations for his efforts during the season.
In his first year as solo coach, Trent took the team to a fourth-place finish in Thirds Premier B as they proved to be Fitzroy men's stand out team of 2017.
Having coached the side into the finals for the last two playing seasons including a Preliminary final in 2019 Trent will coach the Fitzroy Thirds again in 2021.
Trent greeted his life membership saying it's very humbling to be recognised by such a great club and an honour to be part of a select group.
Asked about his highlights over the years, Trent says just being part of the club is right up there.
Being given the opportunity to have worn that great jumper, being around the Roysculture and its history, playing on BSO and Ramsden St. Just being around like-minded footy people in a great organisation./p>
He counts as his other highlights watching the 2012 Thirds take home the premiership, on a day where all three Fitzroy teams were in the grand finals, and making so many great mates at the club.
His mates at the club and his players in many cases one and the same think pretty highly of him too.
Thirds Captain, Tim De Natris, paid tribute to his coach, saying the life membership was well deserved for Trent.
His love and passion for Fitzroy Football Club is unchallenged and he speaks to every new player about pride in the jumper and the club./p>
Tim says Trent is driven and always strives for improvement in himself and everyone he coaches.
He puts in endless hours. He takes the time to get to know all the players that go through the playing group and gives everyone a chance no matter their ability.
Tim says Trent knows how to balance the fun of footy with the hard work for success. As a group we are grateful to have such a caring and genuine person as our coach and friend./p>
He loves talking about football (lots!), drinking RedBull (the only person I know that still does) and wearing shorts, no matter the weather./p>
We asked Trent why Fitzroy was his club and his response: For more reason than I can count. It's best summed up as the club I hold so dear.../p>
Thank you, Trent, for 10 years of enthusiasm and 100 per cent commitment.
