Fitzroy Football Club: Great football, Great community, Great culture.

AGM 133

29-Nov-2017

The Fitzroy Football Club has posted a loss for the first time in three years. The loss was reported at the Clubs 133rd AGM on Sunday at the clubrooms at BSO.

The club announced an operating loss of just over $11,000 driven by increased operating costs from an extra team, the entry of the womens teams into the VAFA and room hire fees, combined with shortfalls in some key fundraising activities (such as the major raffle) and sponsorship payments which didnt eventuate. As costs continue to increase, the Board is exploring opportunities to increase our income streams in season 2018 but overall the Clubs finances remain in good shape with just over $40,000 in the bank.

President Joan Eddy provided a report on the clubs wide array of activities for the year and the report can be accessed online here As part of that report, she indicated the Board is in the process of developing its new strategic plan for the next five years. We will bring you more on that plan as it progresses.

A good crowd was on hand for the AGM and to meet the new Senior Coach, Luke Mahoney, who introduced himself and talked about why he was attracted to the club. When you think about the 133rd AGM, part of the attraction was the history of the club, which is enormous. Ive always enjoyed visiting BSO this backdrop, the setting and the Fitzroy community. I also love being involved with the VAFA; you cant buy that passion people have for their clubs./p>

Luke also touched on his plans for the year saying he was excited about what is in front of the team but noted the evenness of Premier C and the need to set standards right from the start like a Premier side would. We cannot afford to be complacent. When we go back to B we want to be ready to go, not just make up the numbers. The Under 19s experience in the senior side this year will be really beneficial.
