To our Fitzroy Community
It is with a heavy heart that I write tonight following the announcement from the VAFA that our 2020 season has been cancelled.
We knew this was a very real possibility as we went into lockdown a few months ago, but remained hopeful. We were thrilled
to get back to training and the Club has been so impressed with our players and coaches' commitment to stick to the
strict protocols and show their enthusiasm out on the park.
It's been amazing to see so much passion and love for the game, and the Fitzroy Football Club, in everyone as we were able
to come back together for a little while.
However the recent spike of cases of COVID-19 in Melbourne, and with a number of areas going back into lockdown from later
tonight, we understand why this decision had to be made and the Club supports the VAFA in making it.
We are yet to learn more about what we're still able to do as a Club this year, and what we can offer our players in terms
of training and small group activities. This information will take a little longer for us to gather and will be determined
by ongoing decisions that will come from the VAFA, State Government & DHHS. We will communicate more information
as soon as we have it.
I want to thank everyone in our community for your ongoing support during this time. Our Sponsors for sticking by us, our
members for staying on board, all our volunteers, players, coaches and supporters, thank you. The Roys spirit continues
to thrive because of you.
We will bring everyone more information as it comes to us but for now, please follow the rules and stay safe.
Go Roys,
Joan Eddy
